HOW DOES WELLBUTRIN WORK?
Scientists believe that Wellbutrin and
Wellbutrin SR treat depression by affecting two chemicals in the brain
called dopamine and norepinephrine. These are two of the chemicals that
are believed to help regulate your mood. As with other antidepressants,
Wellbutrin may take 4 weeks or longer for you to feel the effects. Often
your friends and family may notice you are better before you feel it
yourself. Once Wellbutrin begins to work, you may find that your mood
improves, you have more energy, and your interest in activities returns.
Wellbutrin has been clinically proven to effectively treat depression.
Although no one antidepressant works for everyone, Wellbutrin has been
shown to work for many people.
USES:
The primary use for this medication is
to help with the treatment of depression. Is also prescribed for ADHD,
Bipolar depression and chronic fatigue syndrome.
HOW TO USE:
This medication may be taken with food
if stomach upset occurs. Take doses at regularly scheduled times each
day. Do not take more or less medication than prescribed and follow
your doctor's instructions carefully. Taking more than the recommended
dose of bupropion will increase your risk of having a seizure. Do not
stop taking this medication without notifying your doctor. Since this
drug may cause sleeplessness at first, it is best not to take this near
bedtime. It may take 4 weeks or more before the full effects of this
medication are noticed.
IS WELLBUTRIN RIGHT FOR ME?
Wellbutrin has been used successfully
to treat depression over a treatment period of a few months or less.
If you experience depression, then Wellbutrin is an excellent medication
that can help. Ask your doctor about Wellbutrin to determine if it is
the best course of action for your symptoms.
WELLBUTRIN SIDE EFFECTS:
Dry mouth, headache, increased sweating,
nausea/vomiting, constipation, anxiety, fatigue and blurred vision may
occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Report
promptly: unusual weight loss or gain, palpitations, agitation, trouble
sleeping. Unlikely but report promptly: tremor, dizziness, fainting,
mood changes, slowed movements, difficulty urinating, decreased sex
drive, drowsiness. Very unlikely but report promptly: seizures, mental
problems, fever, muscle aches, yellowing of the eyes or skin. In the
unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek medical
attention immediately. Symptoms may include trouble breathing, rash,
itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. If you notice other effects
not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
ADDITIONAL:
Never take an "extra" dose
of Wellbutrin Tablets for any reason, even if you miss a dose. If
you forget to take a dose, do not take an extra tablet to "catch
up" for the dose you forgot. Wait and take your next tablet
at the regular time. Do not take more tablets than your doctor prescribed.
This is important so you do not increase your chance of having a
seizure.
Doses should be taken at least 8 hours
apart.
It is important to swallow Wellbutrin
tablets whole. Do not chew, divide, or crush tablets.
It is best not to drink alcohol at
all or to drink very little while taking Wellbutrin. If you usually
drink a lot of alcohol, or if you drink a lot of alcohol and suddenly
stop, you may increase your chance of having a seizure. Some people
have reported lower alcohol tolerance during treatment with Wellbutrin.
Therefore, it is important to discuss your use of alcohol with your
doctor before you begin taking Wellbutrin.
